ABOUT
Julian Farias (b. 1993, Santiago, Chile) is painter based in Leipzig, Germany. Working primarily in painting and object-based media, his practice is grounded in a close attention to material, surface, and constructed form. He is best known for developing tightly controlled compositions that combine figurative elements with symbolic structures, often unfolding through serial work.
His projects frequently engage with representations of destruction of landscapes, masculinity and cultural displacement. Series such as Androdecadencias and Occidentosis approach these themes through specific visual tensions rather than narrative explanation, using repetition, distortion, and material contrast. The work does not resolve its subjects; instead, it maintains a measured distance, allowing meaning to emerge through form and accumulation.
Farias holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Chile and a Bachelor’s degree in Aesthetics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and has completed further studies at the Barcelona Academy of Arts and Atelier Realista de Arte Porto. His work has been exhibited at Galería Metropolitana, Sala Nemesio Antúnez, and Rundgangs at Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, among others spaces. He has participated in BAAM Art Fair in Berlin (2021–2023). His work is held in private collections in Europe and the Americas.
He was formed in Fine Arts in Universidad de Chile and in Aesthetics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Taking courses with at BAA and ARPP.
